Welcome to 19secret. Be one of the first to use the service!
random tip
You can use both letters and numbers as the "from". If you set the "from" to a number that will be in the address book of the recipient (the "to"), their phone will use the name that has been asigned to that number.
It costs $1.00 to send both anonSMS's and maskSMS's.
What is the difference between an anonSMS and a maskSMS?
An anonSMS is where you send a message
and the recipient will not be able to tell who sent it. In their phone
it will look like it came from 19secret.
A maskSMS is where you send a message and you can specify whom it
appears the message has come from. In their phone
it will look like it came from the "from" that you entered
in the message you send to 19secret. Even though it is prohibited
in our terms and conditions, because this form of message is open
to abuse and could allow someone to impersonate someone else, a follow
up message is sent 10 minutes saying:
The msg u just received from <from> was actually sent
through the 19secret service. If you have any questions, please
see www.19secret.com.au. Msg ID: <msgID>.
How
do I send messages?
Hopefully you will find it easy.
You can go to the "how to send" page for an
interactive demonstration, or follow the steps below. To send an anonSMS, when
you create a text message:
enter the "to" (the
recipients number); then
enter your message; and
then
send it to 19secret (19 732 738).
To send a maskSMS, when you create a text message:
enter in the "from" (number
or name you wish the message to appear from); then
enter the "to" (the
recipients number); then
enter your message; and
then
send it to 19secret (19 732 738).
How do I remember the 19secret number?
Well ... I am glad you asked. We went to a bit of trouble to get the number and
name 19secret. If you enter 19 and then spell out s-e-c-r-e-t on the keypad of
your phone, you will have entered the number 19732738.
Will you tell who actually
sent the message?
No, not unless your message is deemed inappropriate and you are
in breech of our terms and conditions.
Do I need a special
phone?
No, not unless you have an absolute brick that was made years, and years ago.
Any phone that can send text messages will work.
Is it one-nine-secret
or nineteen-secret?
We prefer 19secret to be pronounced one-nine-secret
but ... whatever. We aren't too fussy what you call us really (just don't
call us a**holes as we don't like that too much).
Don't you know how to spell engineer?
We like engimineer ... know know like Lisa plays the Saxamophone. Its a Simpson's
reference.
Does it cost the recipient to receive messages?
No, it does not cost one cent.
Someone is sending me abusive and threatening
messages. What can I do?
If you are receiving messages that are threatening, abusive or contravene
the 19secret Terms of Service in any way, please notify
19sectret via email (violations@19secret.com.au clearly
marked "Infringement Notification"). Please state:
Your full name and, if applicable, name of your business entity;
Your mailing address, daytime telephone number,
facsimile number and email address;
Description or identification of the allegedly infringing
Material;
Basis for asserting ownership of or exclusive license
to Material (if applicable).
19secret will investigate the matter and may take appropriate action
to correct the infringement or prevent it from occurring again.
Well, there are lots of potential uses. Lets start with some anonSMS
uses:
Okay, so there is a girl/boy you like, and you are under 18
so dutch courage is out of the question. You can send an anonSMS
as a secret admirer. Sew the seed before building up the courage
to tell over the phone or face-to-face.
If someone asks a group for their honest thoughts on a
topic, you can all send in your feedback anonymously without
risk of offence ... at least not as much offence.
Ever been in a situation where you know that a friend's girlfriend
or boyfriend is cheating on them (the dirty $%#). Do you
want to get in the middle of it? I don't think so. Send an anonymous
tip-off.
And now for some potential maskSMS uses:
Lets say you leave you phone at home and you are down at the
pub and you meet a hot <insert sex here>, you exchange
numbers and you want to send your first sext ... err ... text
message right away. You can simply borrow a friends phone
and make sure that you get the responses sent back to your phone.
It there's an ugly guy/girl after you. You know one of those
scrubbers that just doesn't take a hint. If you have their number
(say a friend gave it to you), you could politely tell them
that you are not interested and enter your name as the "from"
and not your number. That way the scrubber can't call you back.
I am sure you can think of some other uses too! (This
next to be read in a voice over voice with an echo) ... the
potential uses are only limited by your imagination! (and
our lawyers).
Can I send prank messages to my friends?
Noooo.
Please read our terms and conditions. Before you can use 19secret
you must confirm that you accept the terms
and conditions.
Can I stalk someone with this service?
What do you think? Really. Noooo. This should not be in the frequently
asked questions but it is so I can go off on a rant. We don't
like bullies, stalkers or anyone that is going to cause harm
with this service. Please read our terms and conditions. Before
you can use 19secret you must confirm that you accept the terms
and conditions. When read them, you will see that we
have the ability to ban you, your children and your children's
children if you don't use the service in an appropriate manor
We will not be reading through all the messages but we have
a filter detecting certain words and expressions that
may be used deemed inappropriate. If your message contains such
content, the message will likely not be sent and your rights
to use the service may be revoked (and your children, and your
children's children!).
If you are really naughty and need a good spanking, we have the
right to notify the relevant authorities. Don't forget that although
the recipient cannot tell who sent the message, we can. Mwaa
ha ha ha haaa!
I can never remember a persons number to enter it into the message
body. What can I do?
I am glad you asked grasshopper. It depends on the phone you
have. Many phones allow you to easily insert numbers out of your
address book. On most Nokia's, you select "options", then select
"insert contact", then select the contact out of your address
book. Easy-peasy.
How come people cannot respond to me if I put my name
as the "from"?
When you send someone a message and the "from" is set to a name,
the phone you sent it too has no idea where the message came from. As such,
ya won't be getting a response.
Why is there a follow-up message sent?
10 minutes after a maskSMS message
is sent, a "follow
up" message will be sent saying:
The msg u just received from <from> was actually
sent through the 19secret service. If you have any
questions, please see www.19secret.com.au. Msg ID: <msgID>.
Please note, if the recipient contacts us and reports
that a message they received breeches the 19secret rules
of use (as set out in the terms and conditions), 19secret
may reveal the you as the as the sender. Under normal circumstances
(if you use the service correctly) this will not occur.

The msgID is included so if the recipient
contacts us and reports that a message they received breeches
the 19secret rules of use (as set out in the terms and
conditions), 19secret easily look up the message to tell
if that is the case. It also serves to identify 19secret
as service which was used to send the message so all the
Telco's don't get lots of calls wondering how they received
the message.
Note, as mentioned in the terms and conditions, 19secret
may reveal the you as the as the sender if you have breached
the terms and conditions (which you accepted when
you registered). Under normal circumstances (if you use
the service correctly) this will not occur.
There are some pretty messed up people out there (the kind that hang
out in car parks and bowling alleys, yuck!) with the potential to
spoil this service for everyone. We want to stop those people from
using 19secret for evil instead of loving goodness. We are doing all
we can to stop 19secret from being used inappropriately. Hence you
are required to read, confirm you accept the terms
and conditions so you know exactly what you can and
cannot use this service for.
Why
do I have to pay to register through my phone?
Because there is
no alternative! All messages sent to 19secret are charged the
same amount. You can however register for
free online.
Why are
your terms and conditions so very, very, very long?
Because there are some very, very, very bad people out there and they
like to do very, very, very bad things. We don't want those very,
very, very bad people doing very, very, very bad things to you. Our
terms and conditions are aimed at discouraging those very, very ...
really bad people.
When you register to use 19secret, we need to ensure that you and
stating your correct number, and that you confirm you have read and
accept the terms and conditions. To do this, we register your number
in a database with a registration code. The registration code can
be used to send a free message (for a limited time).
What is the 5-digit code that appears when I registered
on the web site?
In order to stop nasty people automatically submitting this
form using some program, we require you to enter in a 5-digit
code that is randomly generated. If you are having trouble reading
it, please refresh the page and it will use a different style.
I sent a message
and the person I sent it too did not receive it. What the f#@%?
What the f#@% indeed. Unfortunately, we rely on these things called
mobile phone networks to deliver the messages. These mobile phone
networks run well most of the time, and messages come through promptly.
We have witnessed occurrences where it has take up to 4 hours for
a message to come through. So maybe it is still on its way.
Obviously it is not always the mobile
phone network. It could be us. Fortunately, since we launched our
system has 100% up-time and has had absolutely no problems. :) Regardless,
if there are problems, please contact
us.
It took ages for the message to send. What's
with that?
As mentioned in the previous answer, there are often delays when
the message hits the mobile phone network. If we get a valid message,
we always endeavor to send it on as soon as possible. If you experience
continual problems, please contact us.
When I put a name as the "from" it
crops it. Why?
The "from:" can only have 11 alphanumeric characters (or letters
as the non geek's call them), or 16 numeric character (or numbers as the non
geek's call them)
When I put a name with a space as the "from",
it puts a dash instead of the space. Why?
Sorry dude, you can't have spaces in the "from". We put the dashes in there
instead.
How come when I send the messages it does not say the correct
time?
For some bizarro reason we can't set the correct local time that the messages
were sent/received. It uses GMT. Sorry.
My message got cut off, then I got a message back saying
the the message was in the incorrect format. What the?
Ahhh. I see the problem my friend. You can only send messages up to 160 characters.
This is the length of a normal text message. Sorry.
